Everthus the Deadbeats set to liven local music scene by Tim Brouk For decades, bands from Lafayette and Indianapolis have been passing each other on I-65 -- or U.S. 52 if they're in less of a hurry. While only about an hour apart, both cities offer each other different sounds these days. Indy has a glut of well-polished power pop bands that have played here while Lafayette's superior garage rock scene has invaded Indy on numerous occasions. Lafayette bands can get a taste of great venues including The Melody Inn and The Vogue while Indianapolis bands can play in front of often enthusiastic crowds that make Indy crowds seem pedestrian. This weekend, one of Indianapolis' best will return to Greater Lafayette. Everthus the Deadbeats have a live show that no stage could contain. Its five members often trade instruments and climb on top of said instruments. During a recent show at the Purdue Memorial Union, drummer Dan Fahrner played his kit on-stage as well as some random drums set off-stage without skipping a beat. The show is an eyeful but Everthus can back it up with a very intriguing art-rock sound. The band's sound has been compared to a David Bowie meets Electric Light Orchestra-type thing but I think it's truly difficult to pin down and that's a good thing. Everthus looks to impress on the eastern side of the Wabash River by headlining the December edition of LML Strange Brew Showcase at 9 p.m. Saturday at Lafayette Brewing Company, 622 Main St. Admission is $5.
Fellow Indy band Everything, Now! will open along with the return of Lafayette rockers The Fall of Rome.
