Review In Smother
by Jason

Featuring artwork by the artist and with limited editions packaged with CD-R’s encouraging the listener to make a copy for a friend, to say that “Sad Pants” is anything but ambitious is an understatement. Indeed they deliver from the beginning of “Backwords (Running River)” with its reverse flow to the “Mourning Has Come” armed with a textured almost Neil Young honesty. Blissful and dressed up in Sunday’s best, Castle Oldchair delivers with a kind of affectionate cursory glance at lo-fi while rooted in folk rock’s tenderness and intimacy. Despite its simple sounding production the album boasts a variety of layers that when peeled back reveal a complex simplicity that riddles puns and lantern-lighted journeys into your inner self. This is one album to cherish and hold tight.
